There is a connectivity between Kolkata (India) and Dhaka on the road and air, as well as on the railway. After 43 years long, on April 14, 2008, the Maitree Express train service introduced a passenger train service from Dhaka to Kolkata and Kolkata to Dhaka. This train opens the new horizons of the journey of two Bengal people. Distance from Dhaka to Kolkata is 396 kilometers. Maitree Express operates directly from Dhaka to Kolkata. Bangladesh and India – the railway authority of two countries are operating on this route.

Maitree Express operates four days a week on the Dhaka to Kolkata and Kolkata to Dhaka route. The train will leave at 8.10 am according to the time of Bangladesh on Saturday, Sunday, Wednesday, and Friday leave for Calcutta from Dhaka Cantonment Station. Again, the train left at 7.10 am according to the time of Kolkata for Dhaka from Kolkata Chitpur Terminal Railway Station on Saturday, Monday, Tuesday, and Friday.

Bangladesh’s Darshana Railway Station and Kolkata Gede Railway Station were earlier given breaks for customs and immigration formalities from Dhaka to Kolkata and Kolkata to Dhaka route. As a result, it took about 13 hours to travel from Dhaka to Kolkata, with customs and immigration formalities. But now before the journey, the work of Immigration and Customs passport and visa checking is done at Dhaka Cantonment Station and Kolkata Chitpur Terminal Railway Station. At present, the journey from Dhaka to Kolkata and Kolkata to Dhaka will take less than 3 hours.
To purchase tickets for Dhaka to Kolkata and Kolkata to Dhaka route, there must be a valid passport and visa. Depending on the valid passport and Visa display, tickets can be collected from the station’s designated counter. Tickets can be purchased until the day before the date of departure from 29 days before the date of the journey. The return ticket can be purchased four days before the date of journey. Tickets are sold from 9.00 to 19.00 in the respective counters of Dhaka Kamalapur Railway Station and Chittagong Railway Station. On the other hand, tickets can be collected from Kolkata Chitpur Terminal Railway Station and Fairplaces Railway Building, Dalhousie in India.

Tickets Fares or Price of Maitree Express Train
The first class air-conditioned cabin seat is priced at BDT. 1640 (USD. 20.00) and coach chair (Air-conditioned) BDT. 985 (USD. 12.00) for the Maitree Express train from Dhaka to Kolkata. 15% VAT and travel tax of 500 taka will be required for every ticket. For children under five years of age and up to 50% of the above rent.
With each passenger in the Maitree Express train, you can carry two bags of 35 kilograms (20 kilograms for children’s ticket). Extra charges will be paid to carry luggage out of the specified weight. In this case, 35 kg to 50 kg, if you have 2 dollars per kg and above 50 kg, you will have to pay 10 dollars per kg. On the other hand, for children’s ticket, 20 kg to 35 kg, if you have 2 dollars per kg and above 35 kg, you will have to pay 10 dollars per kg.
